Weekend Blue Square Bet Premier preview by Alan Alger from Blue Square

Crawley Town went to the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier table after their midweek win at Bath City, a win which also saw their title odds cut to 4/6. Steve Evans' men are the rightful favourites for the league but have a difficult weekend to overcome. Nearest pursuers AFC Wimbledon and Luton Town both have home games in which they are heavily odds-on to get three points. The Red Devils on the other hand travel to Grimsby Town where, although still favourites, they receive a quote of 10/11 - nearer odds-against. Grimsby Town got back to winning ways with a 2-1 home win over Kettering Town in midweek, the exact same scoreline that Crawley recorded in that fixture just days earlier. The Mariners had gone into that game off the back of two away defeats, but bounced back in front of their home fans to extend their Blundell Park league form to seven games unbeaten. Crawley's last league defeat came in mid-October and that's enough to make them favourites for the three points here.

Second-placed AFC Wimbledon host Southport and should justify their odds of 4/11. Terry Brown's side may have drawn their last four games - but each one of those points in isolation represented a good result. That will all count for nothing though if Liam Watson's side get anything from their trip to Kingsmeadow. It's 7/2 that this ends in a fifth straight draw for the home side and it's 6/1 that Southport can win their first away game since mid-August. Gateshead are the visitors to Kenilworth Road - where we have the shortest and biggest prices on show. A home win for Luton Town is offered at 1/4, the away win can be backed at 15/2. In a division where favourites can sometimes be slightly overrated in the match price market - there still isn't much of a case to make for Ian Bogie's team. They haven't won away since September and both of their road victories came at clubs below them in the table. Luton have only one home defeat to their name in the league and that was the last gasp Crawley victory back in October - the only time they've conceded more than one goal at home this season.

The three-way race for the title is illustrated by a huge gap between the third favourites AFC Wimbledon at 13/2 and the teams vying for fourth favouritism. Fleetwood Town, Wrexham, Newport County and Grimsby are all offered at 33/1 to come from a long way back and win the league. Fleetwood should consolidate their place in the play-off zone with a victory at home to Hayes & Yeading United. Micky Mellon's team are another of the odds-on chances at 2/5. Wrexham are grinding out the points to make a grab for a top five spot, they need to make the most of a visit to the Abbey Stadium where they will need to get at least a point to keep on target. Cambridge United will provide tough opposition after their midweek FA Trophy wounding by Blue Square Bet North title favourites Alfreton Town. We're offering a best price of 6/4 on a home win for Martin Ling's side who have only beaten teams from 16th or lower in the table when recording their eight league victories this season.

Newport County are coping with the loss of manager Dean Holdsworth and they will be looking to steady their ship with a home win over Rushden & Diamonds at 4/5. The visitors have not won in any competition since a 5-0 home win over Barrow back in October. Their boss Justin Edinburgh will take great heart from his sides' excellent fightback at Hayes & Yeading in midweek where three second half goals earned them a draw. Mansfield Town have had an erratic set of results recently with games featuring plenty of goals. Successive league defeats at Field Mill have unsettled their promotion bid and we've decided to take a chance on offering them at a best priced 2/5 for the visit of struggling Histon - who had a five point deduction confirmed in midweek. Kidderminster Harriers were another side to suffer that penalty and they'll need to get over that disappointment to fight their way back into the play-off places. They are 8/13 to get three of those points back on the board with a win over poor travelers Barrow.

York City suffered a 5-0 defeat at Luton on Tuesday, but the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story. With keeper Michael Ingham  dismissed early on, their ten-men had to fight against a rampant Hatters attack without a recognised replacement stopper on the bench. The best odds-on bet in this game is that Gary Mills will start naming a sub keeper. The Minstermen are 4/7 favourites at home to Forest Green Rovers. We can't split Darlington and Tamworth who are both 6/4 for their game at The Lamb. Altrincham are the 11/8 slight favourites at home to Bath City. Kettering are 4/5 to win at home to Eastbourne Borough but odds-on punters will be very wary considering the Poppies have only won once at home this season.
