Watford the visitors on Sunday as WSL 'Spring Series' kicks off!
Aston Villa Ladies kick off their 2017 Spring Series campaign against Watford Ladies at the GST Gas Services Stadium at The Lamb this Sunday. Kick-off is 2pm. They head into the clash on the back of a big SSE Women's FA Cup win over Cambridge United. Joe Hunt's troops defeated the Hornets 4-0 in their final match of the 2016 campaign, the club's first-ever Super League clash to be held at Villa Park.
Villa will play a total of nine games in the revamped competition, culminating in a match against Durham on Sunday May 21 which is set to be hosted once again at Tamworth.Hunt's outfit will play one match against each of the other nine teams set to compete in the FA WSL Two, which includes the likes of Oxford United, Everton and recently-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion. There is no promotion or relegation between WSL One and WSL Two for the Spring Series, before the 2017/18 season begins in September.
And skipper Katy Moran believes the opener will be a good indication of where the squad are currently at. She said: "The Spring Series is our latest challenge. A lot of teams have been watching each other, seeing the comings and goings of players."
"It'll be a chance to set our stall out and see where we're all at. We're not going to be perfect, it's a work in progress but it'll be good to get out there and show what we can do ahead of the winter campaign. Teams always love to play against us and always step up their game, we need to make sure we step up our game to combat that."
Entry is £5 for adults and £1 concessions.
