Victory over Brewers is just the tonic for Hucknall visit

Wednesday Jan 14, 2009

Lambs boss Gary Mills was impressed with the way his side bounced back straight away from defeat on Sunday to Gateshead to secure a 2-1 Birmingham Senior Cup Quarter Final victory over Blue Square Premier leaders Burton Albion on Tuesday night.
“We deserved the win with a great all round performance. At the end of the day we lost a game of football on Sunday and picked ourselves up and got on with it. It’s been a strange few weeks with the weather limiting the number of games we’ve played and we didn’t train on Monday ahead of the game (against Burton).
“The lads have proved tonight that they are committed to the cause and played good football for the whole game. We are still top and there are plenty more games to come – we’re ecstatic to be top of the league and it doesn’t matter that we play the team at the bottom of the league on Saturday. Hucknall got a good point against Alfreton (on Tuesday night) but we’ll be approaching the game as we always do.”

“I didn’t give the players a telling off after the game at Gateshead. We were creating chances and could have taken the lead on two or three occasions until the sending off and even then, although the penalty changed the complexion of the game, we carried on battling with 10 men against a good passing side. We had our chances and kept going, but I was disappointed with the fourth and fifth goals going in.”

On the injury front Chris Smith was replaced by named substitute Craig McAughtrie minutes before kick off against The Brewers when he felt a tweak in his groin during warm up.
“Macca has been watching on the sidelines on and off all season but came in tonight at short notice and deservedly got the opening goal which set us up for the win. I really can’t ask any more from my players.
“Unfortunately Nick Wright could be out for up to 8 weeks (after going off injured against Gateshead) but there is always a question mark over that sort of injury (suspected hamstring) so we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Tamworth entertain Hucknall Town at The Lamb on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
