Under 19s travel to Dover for Playoff.

Thursday May 2, 2019

Experience gained in Champion of Champions playoff defeat for Under 19s.

Having won the Midland section of this tournament Tamworth U19’s were drawn away to meet the south East winners with the match being played at Faversham, Kent.

Although they lost this very physical game they gave an excellent account of themselves especially when you consider several Tamworth players were well under 18 years of age with the youngest being just 16. The match ebbed and flowed but Dover were that little bit stronger and experienced but the Tamworth lads could come away knowing they had given a very creditable performance.

However, this trip was a valuable experience for the Tamworth lads in many, many ways. A long coach trip and an overnight stay were new to them all and proved to be a great incentive to further their careers in football. It also did much to create a great sense of camaraderie and team bonding.

On Tuesday we journeyed to the QPR training ground close to Heathrow and spent a good two hours working out under the guidance of Mike Fowler and Andrew Danylszyn. They were also able to watch QPR first team train and then chatted with their manager John Eustace. We finally arrived in Chatham for our over night stop where the team enjoyed a very good evening meal and some relaxation.

The next morning we travelled to Faversham with a short comfort stop in Canterbury before making our way to the Abbey School where the match was played.

The coach was quiet as we set off on our return journey but it wasn’t long before the team bonding came into play and laughter and good hearted banter was the order of the day.

This experience came around due to the generosity of fans and VIP members and it was money well spent because these two days showed how the club is moving forward and the part our own home grown talent will play in the future revival of Tamworth FC. It was a privilege to join them on this adventure along with Academy Sponsor, Paul Guinan.
