U21 Update

Monday Nov 5, 2018

 Training fixture tomorrow evening!

With the first team away from home, our U21's and U19's will take on eachother on Tuesday evening at The Lamb. Entry is free, with a 7.45pm kick off planned.

Tamworth under-21s slipped to their first defeat of the season despite taking the lead at Quorn through Tyrone Ofori.
Ofori’s goal early in the second-half was wiped out by the hosts who completed a turnaround to switch places with the Lambs at the top of the league.

Tamworth started on the front foot – Junior Mpofu and Ramzi Shaheen firing just over for the visitors but the game opened up more with Quorn threatening from a string of corners, almost taking the lead, heading over from close range. What turned into an end to end game nearly saw Tyrone Ofori give the Lambs a lead midway in the first period, but the Quorn keeper was equal to it.

Lambs keeper Josh Barnes was called into action soon after, making a superb save to tip a curling effort onto the bar.
Ofori went close again for the Lambs as they looked to take control with the hosts only really getting shots away from long-range but the first-half ended goalless.

Whatever was said in the Lambs’ dressing room at half-time certainly worked as just two minutes into the second period, Ofori was on hand to put the Lambs in front, smashing in a rebound from the Quorn keeper’s save. Quorn grew into the second-half after the goal and scrambled in an equaliser just before the hour mark after a corner wasn’t dealt with, leaving the hosts to nod home from close-range.

The Lambs had Barnes to thank again for keeping the scores level, the keeper with a perfectly timed tackle as the Quorn striker was bearing down on his goal. The tempo slowed after the equaliser, but Quorn continued to cause problems with their long balls however it was through a corner that the hosts edged in front, a ball into the box causing confusion and the home side slammed the ball home.

Tamworth were determined not to give up their unbeaten record too easily and immediately pressed for an equaliser. Ramzi Shaheen and Callum Devlin both went close in the last ten minutes. In the dying seconds, another hopeful ball over the top wasn’t dealt with by the Lambs and even though Josh Barnes got a strong hand on the striker’s effort, the ball looped over him and into the next to make sure of the win for the hosts.
