Fazeley Charity Cup victory on Good Friday!
Lee Fryers U21 side lifted the Fazeley Charity Cup on Good Friday, after a 2-0 victory against hosts Coton Green. The likes of Wright, Davis, Dodd, and Opoku, who have all been in or around the first team at various times this season, all started, with the latter opening the scoring on 8 minutes.
It was then the turn of John Dodd to double the lead just after the half hour mark, as he cut in from the left hand side, beat two defenders, and hit a low swerving shot across the goalkeeper from the corner of the 18 yard box, which crept just inside the far post.
The unsung hero of the day was central midfielder George Dixon, who due to competition rules, was forced into emergency goalkeeping action. Previous incumbent Jack Hartopp has recently departed to Hinckley AFC, while Scholar George Harding failed a late fitness test on Thursday night, and no special dispensation was granted to include a GK who had not played in previous rounds.
The young Lambs followed up their cup victory with a 3-0 victory on Saturday morning against Health Hayes less than 24 hours after the end of the previous game, and are in action at The Lamb again on Tuesday evening as they host Brocton, 7.45pm kick off.
