 Third straight MJPL win!

Tamworth under-18s had to fight back from two behind against Kidderminster Harriers to take all three points at The Lamb on Saturday morning, writes Tom Scott. A penalty from Harrison James and a Chandler Pegg brace made it three straight wins for Rich Wassall’s side after two early goals threatened to halt the Lambs’ momentum.

Tamworth were slow to start and found themselves a goal behind in the eighth minute after a defensive mix-up allowed the visitors to take the lead. It got even worse for the Lambs four minutes later – a deflected shot falling kindly for the Harriers’ forward who smashed home from close-range.

That second goal sparked Tamworth into life, Pegg immediately going close with a low-range effort before winning a penalty. James stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick with ease and the home side were deservedly back in it. James and Pegg continued to link up well down the Lambs’ left but couldn’t find a way through before the break.

Tamworth came out on the front foot in the second-half – Jack Bonell should’ve headed the Lambs level ten minutes into the second period, but his effort was narrowly wide. Five minutes later it was Pegg who grabbed a deserved equaliser for the home side, nodding home from close-range.

Kiddy looked to respond immediately, cracking Jack Dilloway’s far post but that was to be their last real chance in the game. Tamworth stepped up the tempo and were in search of a winner but had to wait until the dying seconds to claim the win. Pegg showed his quality to beat two men and slot home from six-yards to complete an impressive turnaround for the young Lambs. James’ dipping effort late on almost made it comfortable but the keeper tipped it over.

A fine win in the end for Tamworth under-18s who were rewarded for their persistence after slipping two-goals behind in the first quarter of the game.
