Tom Baillie Reflects on The First Two Games

Thursday Aug 15, 2019

Lambs.co.uk caught up with Head of Senior Football Thomas Baillie on Thursday morning and he was brutally honest in his assessment of the first two performances of the season – “They were not good enough”

“The goals conceded have been totally unacceptable. We have given the ball away too often and far too easily and we have been punished. You could tell on Tuesday that even at 1 – 0 up we were going to concede. The guy who scored the first goal for them must have thought he was on his holidays. For the second, the player has easily run past our defence after a mistake in midfield and for the third, Kyle Perry, the biggest player on the pitch is standing all alone on the penalty spot. When you have lost 3-1 at home and your keeper gets MOM, then it says it all. We have got to be a lot better.”

Having said this Baillie said there were some good points to take from the opening two games. “We started well in both games and we should have scored more goals after taking the lead at St Ives and against Bromsgrove. We created the chances, but we must be better going forward. We have goal scorers and we will get the right recipe. There are still 120 points to play for, it is not the end of the world, however, big decisions have to be made in order to win games.”

In looking forward to the game on Saturday Tom knows that this will be a difficult test. “They are a team that are well backed and have risen from step five to step three in just a short space of time. There are a number of players there that used to play for me and they are a big strong outfit with a lot of pace. They won the title comfortably last season so they will ask a lot of questions of us. We have had them watched so I are looking for a far better performance in front of our supporters.”

Arron Forde and Greg Kaziboni are getting closer to a recall and Tom hopes that they may be available for the squad after the Bank Holiday weekend.
