The Saints are in Town

Friday Jan 3, 2020

Tamworth take on St Ives Town in the Bet Victor Southern Premier Central League on Saturday at the CR MOT Centre Community Stadium at the Lamb (KO 3.00pm). The Programme cover features our management team wishing everybody a happy new year!

Despite the gulf in league places between the two teams, the Lambs will be conscious that St Ives have become somewhat of a bogey team over the past two seasons. Last season, the Cambridgeshire outfit won both games. In the away game it was 1 - 0 to the Saints and they won 2 -1 at the Lamb just before Christmas in front of a gate of 593. The first game of the season saw the Lambs fare a little better, claiming a 1-1 draw after Ryan Beswick had given the Lambs the lead with one of his trademark free kicks.
St Ives have found it tough this season. They currently sit one place off the bottom with 16 points from 23 games played. They picked up a useful point on Boxing Day in a 1 - 1 draw at Needham Market, but they lost in a 7 goals thriller by the odd goal at home to AFC Rushden and Diamonds on New Year’s Day. Their complete record is P23 W4 D4 L15 F24 A46 P16.
A win for the Lambs is vital as we look to put some daylight between ourselves and the chasing pack. With some difficult games coming up in January we need your backing - as Andrew said in his Hednesford post match interview ‘The fans have been awesome. It is like having a 12th man and they give us that impetus.’
