The History of the Lamb Ground and What It Means to Fans

Tuesday Dec 22, 2020

Every football stadium is special to fans. There are so many memories you have shared there with your friends, family and favourite team. Indeed, as a Tamworth Football Club fan, you will love The Lamb Ground and the special games you have witnessed here. Let’s take a trip down memory lane and look at the history of The Lamb Ground, as well as what it means to football fans.

It All Started in the 1934/35 Season

Tamworth Football Club was founded back in 1933. The first season as a professional football club was not played at The Lamb Ground. Instead, the team played at Jolly Sailor. It was during the 1934-35 season when Tamworth Football Club moved into their new stadium that the team still plays at today.

Over the years, the facilities at The Lamb Ground have improved. The stadium was given this name due to the Lamb Inn. This was once an establishment that was at the entrance of the ground. However, it is now the car park after being knocked down. After first, players had to change for games at the Lamb Inn. But improvements over the years mean that changing rooms and a clubhouse were built. This also included improvements for the fans to enjoy football.

The Main Stand as Tamworth Football Club supporters know it now was built in 1997. It can hold up to 518 fans. The terraced ‘shed’, as it is nicknamed, is where the Shed Choir are and they are known for their vocal support for the team during games. The capacity of The Lamb Ground is around 4000. The team plays on a 3F artificial pitch, which was the most recent investment in 2016. It is interesting to note that planning permission was sought for further building at The Lamb Ground. This includes a new stand that can hold around 1,800 fans and that would also have VIP boxes.

Tamworth Football Club and this Season

If you are a gambler and like to enjoy UK poker sites, that include sports betting, you will want to know how Tamworth Football Club are getting on this season. Of course, the team plays in the Southern League Premier Division Central. With four games plays in the 2020/21 season, Tamworth Football Club are sitting in fifth place. This is after starting the league on a good run, with only one loss out of the seven games that have been played so far. This has included three wins, all of them taking place at the Lamb Ground. There have also been three draws. The next game is against Hitchin Town, which will be at the Lamb Ground.

Tamworth Football Club missed out on promotion last season. At one point, the team was level on points with Peterborough and they also had three games in hand. However, it was not meant to be. But they do remain one of the favourites this season to make promotion.
