Taylor Speaks Out

Friday Dec 29, 2017

Connor "We owe supporters a performance"

Following the humiliating defeat at Nuneaton Town on Boxing Day, longest serving player Connor Taylor has spoken out to Matt Panter of the Tamworth Herald, promising an improved showing on New Years Day.

“It was just simply not good enough,” Taylor said. “There’s no way of buttering up anything about that performance. The whole game, from start to finish, it was just embarrassing. It’s not even anything to do with style of play or anything like that. It’s a derby game and it’s about working hard. We could be top of the league and they might be bottom, it doesn’t matter with a derby. You have to turn up, work hard and show passion and we didn’t do those basic things. It was embarrassing, it was a shambolic team performance and I can only apologise to everyone connected to the football club. We have let them down.

Taylor continued “I’m devastated for the fans,” he said. “They turned out in great numbers. They pay good money to come and watch us all year. This was the biggest game of the year for them and it has to be shown on the pitch. The fans have had no bragging rights in the derby for three years now and that’s not good enough. I completely understand their frustrations. We owe Andy, the fans and everyone involved in the club a performance.”
