Tamworth FC must keep winning ways in busy festive period

Saturday Dec 21, 2019

Tamworth FC are atop the Southern League Premier Central with 18 matches played and 40 points collected.

The Lambs have been in great form this season under joint managers Andrew Danylyszyn and Gary Smith. Tamworth are five points ahead of their rivals and must keep the winning ways going ahead of a busy festive period. Fans of non-league football have plenty of fixtures to watch over the holidays.  The Lambs will play four matches over the course of two weeks. Tamworth’s two-week holiday grind comes on the back of a Southern League Premier Central loss to Needham Market, 2-1. Now, with the festive period kicking off and the games coming fast and furious Tamworth must keep the winning ways going to keep hold of first place in the division.

 Seven-match winning streak ended

Tamworth’s nine-match winning streak ended against Needham Market. It was a shock defeat that was incredibly unexpected at The Lamb Ground. Needham Market are currently 14th in the Southern League Premier Central. Tamworth supporters can find the latest offers with Coral and get bonus bets before the Lambs next match in the league.

According to Smith, the match was a “blip” on Tamworth’s fixture list and a way to get re-focused on the task of winning promotion this term. The Lambs will play Alvechurch when they return to league play at the weekend. Twenty-seven points separate Tamworth and Alvechurch in the league table. The Lambs will hope to get back to winning ways on the road and against a team that is far down the table.

Tamworth have already defeated Alvechurch this season, 2-0, at home. If the Lambs can do the double over Alvechurch, they can possible further themselves from the chasing pack.

 Can Tamworth pull away?

Tamworth are five points above second-place Bromsgrove Sporting and Banbury United. The Lambs recently defeated Banbury 1-0 away distancing themselves from the second-place team. Bromsgrove Sporting will have the chance to reel in Tamworth in early January with the two teams playing on the 11th.

Bromsgrove Sporting defeated Tamworth in mid-August, 3-1, at home. A win for Bromsgrove Sporting could pull them closer to Tamworth in the table. However, there is a lot of football to play before that fixture in January. Tamworth have five matches to play before their top of the table clash with Bromsgrove Sporting.

Tamworth captain Ryan Beswick leads the Lambs in goals and is currently in the division’s top five in goalscoring. The midfielder is having a great season at The Lamb Ground and will hope to continue his form in the second half of the season. Goals have not been an issue for the Lambs this season compared to their automatic promotion rivals. Thirty-six goals have been scored by Tamworth. However, Bromsgrove Sporting have tallied the league’s most strikes with 50 goals in 20 matches.

The Lambs’ great defensive record (16 goals conceded) has them soaring in the division and chasing promotion. Can Tamworth navigate the tricky waters of the holiday period?
