The Academy made the short trip to Sheepy Road to play Atherstone Town FC's Under 21's. After overcoming the technique challenge posed by the Birmingham County Under 18's, the Lambs faced a more physical challenge on Sunday against the older Adder's.
Atherstone Town's more experienced players dominated the 50:50's in the opening 10 minutes as the Academy players grew into the physical nature of their opponent's game. Everything changed though on 12 minutes when Jordan Brown scored following a failed clearance by the Adder's centre defence pairing. The tone of the game changed for the rest of the first half, with the Lambs passing game getting up to tempo, and proving to much at times for the Adders as the coaches encouraged the lads to move the ball quicker through the midfield.
Jordan Brown extended the lead on 36 minutes when a precise ball from right back Harry White allowed Jordan to beat the offside trap and then keeper to adequately represent the dominance of the Lambs at half time.
A gritty second half was played out in the warming weather, with the Lambs giving those on the fringes of the team the opportunity to stake a claim. Many played well to give Dale Belford the good type of selection head-ache heading into their next friendly away to Rushdan & Diamonds.
The match finished 2 - 1, with the adders gaining, and then converting a penalty that baffled both dugouts in its awarding.
