Story So Far - Pre Season

Wednesday Jul 12, 2017

Latest news on warm up games!

The pre season fixture programme opened for the first team squad on Saturday, with the visit of a Coventry City XI, consisting largely of U23 players. New striker Bradley Reid missed out through injury, with Ellis Deeney and Steph Morley the only other notable absences. A number of trialists also began to stake their respective claims for contracts ahead of the 2017/18 National League North season.

Goals from Aman Verma, Louis Ezewele, and Luke Jones secured an entertaining 3-3 draw. “It was a really good workout," said Manager Andy Morrell. “The lads got 45 minutes each and I thought they looked fairly fit for the opening game. There were lots of positives to take from it but also a lot of things to work on as you would expect at this stage. We came out of the game with no injuries and we got to work on our formation, 3-4-3, which is what we are looking at this year."

A young Lambs XI traveled to Nottinghamshire on the same day to face Basford United. Jordan Featherstone and Abidan Edwards were amongst the only survivors from last years squad, with many have been either promoted to the first team, or now ineligible due to age restrictions. Academy products Sam Watts, Junior Mpofu, and Chandler Pegg all featured, along with several new signings. A competitive first half saw Basford enter the break 1-0 up, however the young Lambs tired in the second half, eventually going down 6-0.

Tuesday night saw a trip to Evesham United. Reid, Deeney, and Morley all made their first appearances of pre season, with Andy Morrell also making a cameo from the bench in the second half to replace the injured Callum Powell. Darryl Knight and Reece Styche gave us a 2-0 half time lead, before Andy Burns headed in goal of the game in injury time to secure a 3-1 victory.

Next up is a home double header against Cefn Druids and Penybony this Saturday, 1.00pm and 3.30pm kick offs respectively.
