 First six in detail!

Following last weeks fixture announcement, we take a closer look at our first six league opponents, which takes us up to the end of August, and our entry into The FA Cup.

First up will be a trip to St Ives Town on the opening day. The Cambridgeshire outfit had a tough campaign in 2017/18, eventually finishing 22nd out of 24, with a total of 33 points from 46 games. The Saints pre season will conclude with games against Bedford Town and Cambridge City on consecutive Saturdays, as they prepare for our visit.

Alvechurch will be the first visitors to The Lamb of 2018/19 on Tuesday August 14th. The Church have had two extremely successful seasons, and were playing in step 5 as recently as 2016/17, where they won the Midland League Premier Division, having finished runners up to Hereford FC the season before. Ex Lamb Ash Carter is one of several recent departures, so a new look squad will be in place for the start of the season.

Hot on the heels of the above, Kings Lynn Town will make the long trip to Staffordshire on Saturday August 18th. Simon Clark was appointed Manager in May, and will have his work cut out to better last seasons achievements, where The Linnets finished runners up on 100 points, before a narrow defeat to Slough Town in the playoff final.

On Saturday August 25th, we'll make our first ever visit to Leiston in club history. The Ipswich based outfit were moved laterally from The Isthmian Premier Division, where they finished fifth last season before losing to Dulwich Hamlet in the playoff semi final. Manager Glen Driver confirmed that the club were looking to reduce the average age of their squad recently.

Bank Holiday Monday will see Rushall Olympic make the short journey to Tamworth. The Pics have gained a strong reputation for developing players in the past couple of seasons, with forwards Alex Reid and Aaron Williams both moving to football league clubs of late. Manager Liam McDonald is another ex Lamb, and has managed both Hednesford Town and Redditch United at step 3.

The final league fixture before a break for The FA Cup will see us make the journey to Northamptonshire to face AFC Rushden & Diamonds. The phoenix club were formed in 2011, and have made steady progress, with 2018/19 being their first ever at step 3. Hayden Road Sports Ground will be a new one for all Lambs fans, with Rushden only moving there at the start of last season.
