 Late heartbreak on Tuesday night!

Mike Fowler was full of praise for the side after Tuesdays agonising last minute away defeat against Salford City. “In terms of the game on Tuesday night, I thought it was a proper team performance,” said Fowler. “We had to weather a storm for the first 15 minutes or so. But I felt that, after 20 minutes, we got to grips with things."

He continued “We changed things around slightly and I thought we got a foot-hold in the game. In the second half, we started to believe. I felt it was set up for a smash and grab and we started to dominate in terms of possession. They started getting frustrated and couldn’t break us down. We got ourselves in front but unfortunately let them back in. I am just devastated for the lads. They emptied their tanks for me, they had nothing left at the end."

A late penalty miss left Fowler particularly frustrated “Akwasi (Asante) was the designated penalty taker,” said Fowler. “Zak has selfishly tried to take the opportunity himself and has missed the spot-kick. We can’t tolerate that selfishness in the group. As a group, we have always said we are in it together and that decision went against what we went out to achieve in the game.Zack’s a good player. He has got ability, there’s no doubt about that. I have spoken to him. He knows I am disappointed. We can’t tolerate selfish behaviour. We have got to all be going at this, in the right direction and as a team.”
