Following the late resignation of ex reserve team boss Daren Fulford and with the current financial climate and the uncertainty of the Setanta TV deal Tamworth Football Club have taken the tough decision not to run a Reserve team for the 2009/2010 season.
The Lambs will formally resign from the Midland Combination prior to the League’s AGM which is scheduled to be held on Monday 22nd June 2009.
With the majority of Reserve Team players opting to follow Daren to Atherstone along with a number of players who he had lined up for the proposed under 18’s it was decided that there was insufficient time for anyone else to come straight in and find players who if called upon were able to make the grade for First Team action.
First team manager Gary Mills was involved in the decision making process and was supportive of the club’s decision despite the loss of a number of local youngsters who would have been allocated a First Team squad number for the Lambs Conference National campaign.
As a result of the resignation of the Reserve Team the club has also disbanded the junior teams which had been playing under the clubs name for the last few seasons. A spate of managerial resignations left the club with little choice and again this action will save the club a significant amount of money which as previously stated will be a benefit in the event of any losses of income from current budgeted streams of income.
The club would like to place on record their thanks to the officials of the junior section especially Secretary Tom Hayes for the vast amount of work that they put into the youth section over the last few seasons and wish them well with their new clubs.
