Next up at the Lamb

Wednesday Jul 24, 2019

Tamworth welcome Cefn Druids, the oldest football club in Wales to the CR MOT Centre Community Stadium at the Lamb on Saturday (KO 3.00pm)

It will be their second visit to the Lamb, having beaten Tamworth 3-1 on 15 July 2017.

The game will be a tough encounter for the Lambs with the Welsh Premier League growing in strength each season. Improved performances by teams such as TNS, Connahs Quay Nomads and Bala Town have seen the league gain four places in European Competitions (1 x Champions League and 3 x Europa League). Cefn Druids qualified for the Europa League last season and only last week Connahs Quay hit the headlines by knocking Kilmarnock out of the Europa League.

Cefn is a village just outside of Wrexham in North Wales and the club was founded in 1992 from the amalgamation of Cefn Albion and Druids United. Druids United lay claim to be the oldest football club in Wales, formed in 1872. They are notable as becoming the first Welsh club to enter the FA Cup and Birmingham & District League and winning the Welsh Cup eight times. The club play their home games at the ’The Rock’,(pictured below) a 3,500 capacity Stadium that they moved into in 2010. Just last May ‘The Rock’ was chosen as the host venue for the Welsh Cup Final.

Speaking after the victory against Sutton Coldfield Town, Thomas Baillie said “I am looking forward to the game. They have played Wrexham in pre-season and we know it will be a tough test. I have seen a few videos of them and they are a strong side who knock the ball around well. I expect a very very good game and a tough game.”

Tamworth are hoping that they will have some key players back for the game on Saturday. Arron Forde will still be out with an injury, but Rhys Hoenes, Greg Kaziboni, Tyrell Waite, and Kai Williams are all expected to return to action.

Admission to the game is £5.00 (all adults) and £2.00 for those 17 and under. Car parking is the usual £2.00
