NEW ERA FOR THE SUPPORTERS CLUB

Thursday Jun 4, 2015

THERE’S a new face at the helm of the Tamworth FC Supporters Club after Paula Clayton was named as Chairperson to replace Dave Brown...

The lifelong fan is relishing the role that stands before her.

“I am extremely proud to have this position,” said Paula, who is a regular at home and away games and has been a member of the Supporters Club for three seasons. “I want to play my part in driving the organisation forward with fresh ideas and enthusiasm.

“We want to work alongside the football club to get more local people involved and create a real family atmosphere around the place.

“This is an opportunity for us to tap into the feel-good factor around the club; we’ve got a good working relationship with the Board and staff at the football club and it will allow us to focus our efforts where our members want us to.

“We have various ideas that we are working on, including organising more social events, to really create that community feel.

“We’ve got a group of volunteers, comprising of Supporters Club members and fans, who will be meeting up during the close season to help get The Lamb ready for the new season, be it weeding or DIY tasks, that kind of thing.

“It’s important that we all play our part.”

Paula was just in 14 when she got the ‘Tamworth FC bug’ following our FA Vase success of 1989. “The whole occasion just made a lasting impression on me,” she admitted. “It managed to unite the whole town and created some special memories for so many people.

“There have been a lot of memories since then too. The trip to Goodison Park to see us take on Everton in the FA Cup was fantastic but there was also the time we went to Kenilworth Road and the pitch was covered in snow. The game went ahead and only a handful of Tamworth fans went along, but we still took a coach and all huddled together in one corner of the stand; that was just as special as it showed the camaraderie that exists between us.

“I hope that the fans really get behind Andy Morrell, Mike Fowler and the team in 2015/16, as they did last season.

“I also hope that they fans get behind the Supporters Club too as we are starting a new era with the bit firmly between our teeth.”

Membership of the Supporters Club is £10 for adults and £5 for Under-16s. The benefits of membership include greatly reduced travel on all away coaches (£5 off each trip for adults), 10% off a purchase of £10 or more in the Club Shop (including replicas shirts) and access to priority tickets should The Lambs do well in the FA Trophy or FA Cup.
