Morrell On Possible Business

 Gaffer offers squad update!

Matt Panter of the Tamworth Herald met with Lambs boss Andy Morrell this week, with Morrell offering some clues as to how the squad may take shape ahead of next weekends home fixture with Brackley Town.

“We have been out watching a lot of games, my phone is constantly on the go and I have met with Teambuilder" said Morrell. “We need help in all positions. Some of the money floating about at this level is mind-blowing but there are players who want to come and play. In some ways it is good we have a week without a game now. It gives us a breather, the chance to freshen up the group and then refocus on a tough run of games coming up.”

The Manager confirmed that one possible addition could be midfielder Ben Fox. “I have spoken to Nigel Clough,” said Morrell. “They were keeping everyone around the group last week because of the FA Cup. But we will be following that up as a potential one now. I know Burton really like him and rate him highly. But he needs games to get more experience so hopefully we can come to an arrangement.”

On the goalkeeping situation, Morrell said “Ty (Belford) has offers on the table from elsewhere. He’s a possibility but we are talking to a few players. We have other irons in the fire. Dan Jezeph has done well for us in the last couple of games. He has been a lot more pro-active but we need someone to help him and push him.”

On the possible departure of Deeney, Morrell said: “A few teams have asked about him and we have had a couple of bids, one we have accepted. It’s up to Ellis now. He is speaking to them and it’s out of our hands while he makes the decision.”

With regards to the recent departure of Louis Ezewele, Morrell added: “He’s been here for two-and-a-half years and has never had a good run of fitness and games. There have been spells where he has come into the side and done well but he has then broken down again. He needs to go somewhere in order to get a regular run of games and we can’t offer him that. Redditch came in with an 18-month deal for him and that’s too good for him to turn down. We do believe he can be a good player if he can stay injury free and that’s why we have put clauses in his contract for if he does well.”
