Second half penalty makes it 15 points from a possible 15!
Greg Mills was the hero on Saturday, as he netted a 66th minute penalty to secure a 2-1 victory, and make it five consecutive National League North wins for The Lambs, after Danny Newton had equalised a minute earlier. Andy Morrell caught up with Nick Reid after the game to give his thoughts.
Morrell said: “It wasn't pretty and we weren't at our best by any stretch, but somehow we kept going and found a way to win the game. In the last few weeks we have beaten some of the top teams and that means expectation rises, especially when you are playing a team further down the league."
“The longer the game went on, the more apprehensive the fans became, but we got there and I think it is important that we find a different way to win. I am sure it will make us stronger going forward."
Andy continued: “Did we deserve to win on Saturday? Probably not. Stalybridge played well, after the sending off they tried to protect the goal and it was difficult to break them down. A mistake gives the goal away and before we knew it, we were behind."
“We kept the pressure on though and although they were difficult to break down, we found a way through and got the win. Belshaw made some fantastic saves which kept us in it and Burns also played well to ensure we got the win. That's five wins on the bounce now, the confidence of the players is high and we are looking to keep pushing on. I am really proud of the way they played and kept working and it will stand them in good stead."
