Tamworth Lionesses -vs.- Colesley
West Midland Regional Women's Football League
Division One North
Due to bad weather, the Christmas period and cup games this was the Lionesses first league game in 6 weeks.
After a rusty start the Lionesses created some good chances and on the half hour scored the first goal, a good move down the right hand side involving Amy Foy and a fine ball by Chrissis Wheeler found Cat Harris 20 yards out who unleashed a shot that beat the Colesley keeper across the face of goal.
The second half started off in the same vain as the first half had finished with the Lionesses making good chances and playing some decent football.
On an increasingly bumpy surface, a goal mouth scramble saw the Lionesses get there second goal.
The Colesley keeper was then forced into making two fine saves before Captain Hannah Robson scored from 7 yards (62 mins ).
With good midfield displays from Nikki Jarvis, Bernice Owen, Kelly McCarthy and Chrissie Wheeler chances came of plenty, and on 80 mins a good through ball by Amy Lupton was received by Cat Harris, who calmly found the left hand corner with ease.
All game the defence of Rachel Burton, Kim Mcguigan, Hannah Robson, Amy Foy and keeper Kate Watson had kept Colesley at bay with moderate ease.
Following an innocuous looking tackle by Nikki Jarvis the referee gave a free kick just outside of the penalty area, which gave Colesley the chance of a consolation goal, which they took, leaving the final score 3-1.
A valuable 3 points was the outcome for ladies and they will now try and play catch up with their league fixtures.
Players of the match Kim Mcguigan, Cat Harris and Benice Owen
