Willenhall Town -v- Tamworth Lionesses
West Midland Regional Women's Football League
Division One North
Willenhall Town 7 Tamworth FC Lionesses 0
The Lionesses, conceded after only 6 minutes with the Tamworth players still in the dressing room. This woke the Lionesses up and for the next 25 minutes they attacked the Willenhall defence creating some good chances.
Two clear chances falling to Sophie Wardle who was unlucky with two efforts on the Willenhall goal.
Willenhall possess one of the fastest forward’s in the league, with her pace and the pitch being the maximum yardage, they took full advantage of this.
A disputed corner led the second goal, with slack marking ensuring an easy finish for the Willenhall forward.
A further 2 goals before half time fell to the whippet striker of Willenhall.
Second half and the Lionesses began steadily still trying to claw their way back into the contest, they then got undone by the long ball over the top conceding another couple of goals.
The last goal came following a reckless tackle by Captain Hannah Robson, with Willenhall completing the scoring from the penalty spot.
One ray of sunshine came in debutant Vicky Mellors who came on for the last half hour, she as not played for 3 years because of army duties and did well under the circumstances.
Vicky has played for her home town team Hull City and also includes Preston North End and Scunthopre in clubs she has played for.
We hope Vicky will bring some experience to the side and that she enjoys playing for the Lionesses.
