Kettle Speaks

Friday Feb 15, 2019

 Skipper has his say!

Lambs skipper Joel Kettle caught up with Matt Panter of the Tamworth Herald this week, and started by expressing his delight following no goals against in the St Neots game. “I am going home happy with a clean sheet" Kettle said. “The back four and Jas, we were saying, whatever the scoreline, let’s keep it clean, keep doing the right things. So five goals, three points and a clean sheet, it is magnificent!”

Kettle admits it was great to have Singh back in goal for the first time since he suffered a nasty gash in the 3-0 win at Alvechurch. “He’s been a big miss,” said Kettle. “Luke Simpson came and did a good job for us but he came into an environment where the pressure was on us as team a bit. But Jas is a quality keeper, that’s why we signed him, that’s why I recommended him to the club. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper with his hands and feet. We can give him the ball a bit more freely and he can use his left foot to get us further up the pitch or to start building plays from the back.”

Kettle said the win on Saturday was a ‘step back in the right direction’. “We put a lot of effort in and got the end product,” he said. “It’s nice to get a win at home like that and give the fans something to cheer about. It’s good, it’s positive, one step back in the right direction.”

Kettle also praised the work of Gary Smith and his assistant Andrew Danylyszyn for helping lift some of the gloom around the club. “When you see Smudger’s passion, due to his relevance to the club and his connection, it’s great. Andy’s technical and tactical ability with what he wants to bring across has also helped. They have been a breath of fresh air. It’s quite easy to get stuck in a rut but they have really helped us. They are keen in building patterns and plays from the back and they will try to keep getting that message across and provide a level of football that the club can be proud of and the fans can enjoy,” added Kettle.
