It's Top v Bottom!

Thursday Feb 6, 2020

Redditch v Tamworth, Saturday 8 Feb match preview.

Four days after Tamworth claimed pole position in the BetVictor Southern Premier Central League with a 2 - 0 win over Alvechurch, the Lambs make an almost identical journey to play Redditch United, situated just 4 miles from Lye Meadow - or if travelling by train, the next stop along the Cross City line! Chris Lait came off the bench to score the all important goals, but a side already missing Joe Magunda, Tyrelle Wait and Ahmed Obeng, then lost Jimmy Fry with a cut head and Aaron Forde was sent off. The management team will certainly be hoping there will be good news that players are recovering when they report for training on Thursday evening.
The clash at Redditch is a top v bottom affair with both teams needing points for different reasons - United are fighting relegation with just 9 points from 29 games while the Lambs need to take all three points to put pressure on the chasing pack in their battle for promotion. The Trico Stadium outfit have signalled their intentions this week by making no less than 6 new signings as they seek to put an end to a run that has not seen them pick up a single point since the end of August. Manager Duane Darby will be hoping the new faces provide a lift in the team’s fortunes.
The teams have already faced each other this season with Tamworth claiming all three points in a 3 - 0 win on 14 September. The three first half goals that day came from Tyrelle Waite, Ahmed Obeng and Greg Kazaboni. You can relive the highlights from Lambs Media here. In terms of the history between the teams, this will be the 45th competitive fixture since the first encounter at the Valley on 16 October 1971 in the West Midlands League which ended in a 2 - 2 draw. The complete record is P20 D12 L12. The highest attendance recorded between the two sides was for an FA Cup 3Q tie at the Lamb on 16 Oct 1990 when 1682 witnessed a 2 - 0 win for Tamworth.

We hope that many fans will be able to make the short journey to the game to support the Lambs in our quest to win the league. A supporters coach will be running (see details below)
