TAMWORTH FC goalkeeper, Raajan Gill, says it will be a ’real honour’ to represent the Panjab national team after receiving a call-up last week...
Gill has been selected to play against the Leicester City FC International Academy on February 20 at the Foxes training ground after impressing during a training session at Lilleshall.
Should he continue to catch the eye, Gill could receive a call-up from the Panjab FA to represent the team at the ConiFA World Championships in the Abkhazia region of Georgia during the summer.
“It’s a real honour for me,” said Gill. “And it’s also a tribute to my grandparents who were originally from there so it’s nice for our family.
“I am really looking forward to it to be honest. It will be a great experience.
“The Panjab FA got in touch with me and asked if I wanted to go to a training session at Lilleshall,” he said. “It was a bit of a shock.
“But it was good to see what they had to offer and I was really impressed to be fair.
“They are managed by Reuben Hazel, who used to play for Oldham Athletic.
“And there were a few other players I knew at training as well such as Gurjit Singh, who is at Kidderminster Harriers, and Rikki Bains, who used to play for Coventry and Tamworth.
“So there are some decent players and, from my perspective, it’s a good opportunity for me to get more games, which I am looking to do. It is all about getting more and more experience for me.”
