Hendrie is the top boss

Saturday May 30, 2020

We are delighted to announce that the winner of our Twitter poll to find the Greatest Lambs boss is Paul Hendrie.

Paul was boss for the Lambs for 350 games before his final team selection in December 2000 and enjoyed League success winning the Southern League Midland in 1997, and FA Cup highlights included matches against Scarborough, Exeter City and Bury.

Paul took the lions share of the 1500 votes compared to other finalists who made it through from 32 to the last four: Graham Smith, Gary Mills and the current trio of Gary Smith (who played in Paul Hendrie's squad) + Andrew Danylsyzyn and Thomas Baillie.

Paul, a former Birmingham City and Celtic player joined The Lambs as boss in February 1995 aged 40, after leaving Redditch United.

In the 19 games at the end of his first season he lost just three, beating Redditch 2-1 in his second game with goals from Andy Canning and Chris Moss and in the third game, away at Armitage, Julian Alsop netted (possibly) the fastest hat-trick in the world ever!

There were definitely many more good and memorable times at The Lamb, and on the road, after that while Paul and assistant Andy were in charge!

We would like to thank the Tamworth Herald for their support of this poll to find The Lambs best boss

So what better way to say thanks to Matt Panter of the TH, and Paul Hendrie for his time at The Lamb by sharing this picture, of Paul receiving his Herald Sports award for the success of the 1996-97 season.
