Great Comeback From Villa Ladies

Tuesday May 23, 2017

5-4 win in WSL Spring Series Finale!

Alys Hinchcliffe scored an injury-time winner as Villa Ladies came back from 4-1 down to secure a remarkable victory in their final match of the 2017 WSL Spring Series. The win also preserved the claret and blues' unbeaten home record.

Jade Richards gave Villa a sixth-minute lead only for Zoe Ness' 18-minute hat-trick to turn the game on its head in the first half. Beth Hepple added a fourth for the Wildcats from a 52nd-minute penalty.

However, centre-back Richards headed home in the 68th minute to triple her tally for the season before determined Villa produced an incredible comeback full of heart and endeavour.

Lucy Shepherd reduced the deficit further with six minutes of the regulation 90 minutes remaining before Kerri Welsh had another effort ruled out for offside. Maddy Cusack fired in an 89th minute leveller to spark celebrations.

However, with their tails up, the hosts were not done yet. They sealed the win when Hinchcliffe converted a left-footed winner to send the home crowd into raptures. Victory lifted Villa into fourth spot in the final WSL Spring Series standings.
