 Newton departs for Stevenage!

Everyone associated with Tamworth F.C. would like to wish Danny Newton the best of luck for next season, after he officially signing for EFL League Two side Stevenage this afternoon.

Newton won a clean sweep at our end of season awards, after scoring an outstanding 29 goals in all competitions during 2016/17. He recently spent time at the Jamie Vardy V9 Academy at the Etihad Campus in Manchester after impressing scouts earlier this season, and several other clubs had expressed an interest in the prolific striker.

Discussing the transfer with Matt Panter of The Tamworth Herald, Andy Morrell said "He's such a handful for defenders. His effort, work rate and enthusiasm are second to none. We are obviously gutted to lose him in one sense but we are absolutely delighted for him. He totally deserves his opportunity in the Football League and I think Stevenage are a good club for him to go to. It's a great step for him because I think he will get to play. With full-time training as well, who knows where he can go? As a club, I think we can be proud of the part we have played in his development."

Newton took to Twitter shortly after signing his new contract to thank Lambs fans for the unwavering support over the past two seasons, and confirmed he would be keeping a close eye on our results.
