 Mike on first team departure!

Mike Fowler caught up with Matt Panter of The Tamworth Herald this week following his departure as first team Head Coach. Mike, who remains at the club in a full time youth development position, started by explaining his decision.

“I’m a believer that you have to take responsibility for your own destiny,” he said. “If you feel in your heart of hearts it’s the right time to go, then it is the time. Ultimately it’s a results business and they have not been good enough. The buck stops with me and I just felt that it was in the best interests of the club moving forward. It’s not a rash decision based on the FA Cup defeat."

Fowler continued “It has been a good opportunity for me to be manager here and I will learn from the experience but I feel the club needs some fresh optimism. A club with this pedigree needs to be higher in the pyramid and doing better in the FA Cup and, at present, I am not the man to do that. Hopefully someone else can deliver the results necessary.”

Fowler added: “I love this club to bits. I have fallen in love with it and that’s why I uprooted and moved from Wales to come and live in the town. That passion for the club is part of the reason I have made the decision now. I don’t want to leave a sour taste in people’s mouths so it was the right thing to do. I still want to be a part of the club moving forward and I will focus on developing the youth players to get them through to the first team."
