Double Delight For U21's

Lambs U21's wrap up League and Cup in the last 72 hours!

After landing the Midland League Under-21 North title on Monday night, our U21's picked up their second piece of silverware in less than a week, as they triumphed in the Midland League Challenge Bowl last night.

Bedworth United U21 were the cup final opposition, and provided a stern test, taking the lead midway through the first half. This setback spurred The Lambs on however, and they found themselves level just before half time, with Ellis Millard finding the back of the net from the second phase of a free kick.

It was a set piece again from which our youngsters found themselves in front on 71 minutes. Ryan Pace was the architect this time, with George Dixon on hand the get the finishing touch. On 78 minutes, it was skipper Millard who put the game out of sight.

Earlier in the week, a 1-1 draw with Tipton Town U21 was enough to secure the league title, with Luke Delaney getting the goal on this occasion.

Matt Panter of the Tamworth Herald caught up with U21 boss Lee Fryers after the victories. Lee said: "I am delighted for the lads because they are a great group. It has been a difficult league at times and the table shows that - three points separate the top five."

"Results and winning cups is second to producing talent," he said. "But I have said to the lads, if they are producing performances on the pitch, the points and results will come with it. The remit I had from Andy Morrell at the start of the campaign was to try to get some lads into the first team squad. We have managed that with Jorna Moulton, Ryan Pace, John Dodd and Mikey Wright, who have been involved in the competitive side."

Fryers was also excited by the development below his U21 group. "We will have the under-18s next year and that will give me a chance to have a look at a few players for the under-21s, just like Andy does with our lads. There is that pathway for the under-8s right the way up to the first team and that's a fantastic effort in such a short period of time. The foundations are being laid for the future and if we build them correctly we will reap the rewards as a club," he added.
