Club Statement

 Update on Wednesdays U19 fixture!

Tamworth Football Club would like to make the following club statement in relation to a National League U19 Alliance fixture which took place at The Lamb on Wednesday March 6th 2019 between Tamworth FC and Chasetown FC.

A full investigation into the fixture has been launched, and we will collaborate openly and honestly with the opposition club, the league in question, the Football Association, and any other parties during this. However, serious claims of racist behaviour have been made on social media that we feel must be addressed prior to the completion of the full investigation.

Our initial understanding at this stage is that during the first half of the fixture, there was a coming together of players. Immediately after this, a Chasetown player aimed racially abusive language at a Tamworth player, Abdourahman Cole. The aforementioned Tamworth player then retaliated and aimed racially abusive language back at the aforementioned Chasetown player. The match Referee correctly dismissed both players from the field of play.

Once the full investigation has been concluded, if the above allegations are proven correct, serious internal action will be taken against the Tamworth FC player in addition to the external sanctions that he will face. We would hope that Chasetown Football Club will act in a similar manner with regards to their player.

Tamworth Football Club does not condone discrimination in any form, and will deal with any and all allegations of racist behaviour as an urgent priority. Tamworth Football Club is proud of the diversity evident in its current playing and non playing staff, and was delighted to work in partnership with Kick It Out on Non League Day this season (October 13th 2018) to further promote equality and inclusion within our local community.

No further comment will follow until the conclusion of our investigation.
