Championship Preview.

Saturday Jul 27, 2019

The new season starts in earnest next weekend with the Championship opener on Friday evening.

All the teams are having their final pre-season matches this weekend, fine tuning the players, squads and tactics.
In what is thought to be one of the most competitive leagues in the world. With the fantastic financial incentive of promotion to the Premier League, several teams will be going ‘all in’ to grab that promotion.

In a wide-open league, Leeds United will start favourites at 9/2 on the back of a strong season last year, just falling short in the play-offs last year. You will find best bets today offering great incentives and offers. Following Leeds in the betting is last season’s relegated teams, Fulham at 7/1 and Cardiff at 10/1. Both these teams have strong squads from last season’s campaign and will be hoping to bounce straight back, using their parachute payments to keep their better players.

Rounding off the top five in the betting are midlands rivals West Brom and Stoke, both at 12/1. Both are recent Premier League teams with good supports and those fans will be confident of a strong season and at least a playoff spot.
If you are looking for some value then look no further than Derby or Middlesborough. Both are 16/1 and are always there or thereabouts in the league come May and have several years experience of playoff action. Birmingham were once in the top tier and could put together a strong season. They are 50/1 to win the league!

Another big outsider with a chance are QPR. At 66/1 they could surprise a lot of people. They have new management, a good squad and are a ‘big’ club with plenty of potential.

It is a difficult division to select a winner, so when Luton host Middlesborough on Friday evening, it will be the start of a long season with no doubt many twists and turns. One thing is for sure, the eventual winners will deserve the financial jackpot they will receive from moving up to the Premier League.
