Burns To Stay

Friday Jun 16, 2017

Ever-present full back committed for 2017/18!

Lambs right back Andy Burns caught up with Matt Panter of The Tamworth Herald to discuss the season ahead. Burns made the number two shirt his own last season, starting in all 46 first team fixtures across National League North, The FA Cup, The FA Trophy, and Birmingham Senior Cup.

Burns said "For me personally, I am the kind of player who would like to stay with a club for a long time. When I reached 50 games for Tamworth, it was something I was very proud of. I am on 90-odd now so hopefully I can get to that 100-mark very soon. I just think that when you stay somewhere for a long time and are part of a successful team, it means so much more when you go on and win something. I would prefer to be part of a club for a long time than jumping from one club to another."

Burns went on to discuss his hopes for next season, and the personnel he feels can make a big difference to the side. "I thought when Jonah (Luke Jones) came in last season, we steadied the ship." He said. "We looked a lot more solid in the latter stages of the campaign and we have got to build on that. Hopefully we will get one or two new faces in as well to add competition at the back and we will be able to get back to how strong we were the previous season."

He continued "Darryl Knights is good signing. He has a lot of experience and I am sure that will make a big difference. With the lads who have been kept from last season as well, we have the basis of a good squad. I am sure the gaffer (Andy Morrell) and Mike Fowler have their eyes on more players. Hopefully we can get them in and they will be able to help us achieve a play-off place, which is something we are all striving for."
