National League North fixtures for 2016/17 were released today, with The Lambs set to begin their campaign away at Northamptonshire based Brackley Town. Brackley of course were the opposition on the final day of last season, were they secured the three points that they needed in order to avoid relegation.
The upcoming game on Saturday August 6th will provide a chance to immediately avenge that final day defeat, and will also mean a rapid return to St James Park for both Stef Morley and Joe Clarke, who signed from the club over the summer.
Discussing the announcement with the Tamworth Herald's Matt Panter, Andy Morrell had this to say. "It's a little bit weird because we ended last season with a trip to Brackley. You have to start somewhere though and we will look forward to the challenge. They have got a good budget there, Kevin Wilkin had his hands tied a bit last year but he has been able to get some good players in this season and they will be expecting to have a stronger campaign this time. So it will be interesting to see how we go first game. It is away from home but we will go there with a positive attitude and hopefully we can get off to a good start. We want to come out of the blocks fighting from the word go."
Following the opener away from home, the new 3G surface at The Lamb will host its first two competitive fixtures, with Worcester City and AFC Telford United the visitors on Tuesday August 9th and Saturday August 13th respectively.
