Boss proud despite defeat

Friday Mar 24, 2017

Morrell "We played some great stuff!"

Andy Morrell caught up with Matt Panter of the Tamworth Herald to discuss a narrow midweek defeat to Kidderminster Harriers, and spoke of his pride in his team despite the agony of conceding a last minute winner.

Morrell felt his side's 4-3 defeat was harsh on his troops and he admitted refereeing decisions had cost them.

“I am immensely proud of the lads because I thought they were absolutely brilliant," he said. I can't fault their effort, their endeavour, the way they went about their work with regards to the structure we set up for them. A couple of key decisions at key moments . We should have had a couple of penalties I felt and the referee made some terrible decisions. I am not one to slag off referees normally. I haven't all season but he got decisions wrong."

“Jed Davies, in the second half, has gone over his shoulder, controlled the ball towards him and got clattered by their lad and it's a free-kick to them. That cost us because they score from it. We were 2-1 up at that stage, we were okay but suddenly they are on top. Little decisions like that, they got wrong and it's cost us."

“We find ourselves losing the game that we didn't deserve. Even though this is a defeat I hope this gives them some so much belief. We played some great stuff, moved the ball around really well, made passes when we needed to. I'm just gutted for them they didn't get anything out of it."
