Blue Square Bet Premier weekend betting preview by Alan Alger from Blue Square

The midweek results in the Blue Square Bet Premier suggest that the race for the play-offs could be incredibly close this season. Darlington's 4-0 win over Fleetwood Town puts them just seven points behind Micky Mellon's team but with four games in hand. It could even be considered that all clubs up to and including Mansfield Town in 14th could be potential finishers in the top five. The Stags lie 14 points off fifth place but their FA Trophy escapades leave them playing catch-up having played considerably fewer games than their fellow challengers. All of which leaves it very difficult to work out just where teams will finish up and it's no surprise to see some wildly swinging prices each week on which two teams will be promoted. AFC Wimbledon's failure to win at Hayes & Yeading United on Tuesday has seen their title price drift all the way back out to 14/1 whilst Luton Town's win at Forest Green Rovers produced a cut in their price from 4/1 into 11/4. Crawley Town remain the odds-on title favourites at 2/7.

A full set of Saturday 3pm fixtures is something of a rarity these days in Non League's top-flight. Weather permitting we have 12 games to get our teeth into. The shortest price on offer for accumulator fans is Crawley's 2/11 quote at home to Histon. The Red Devils should be fit from having their midweek match postponed and it's a huge 11/2 that the away side can even get a draw here. Managerless Grimsby Town play host to AFC Wimbledon who need to win if they are to stay in the title race. Terry Brown's Wombles are the narrow favourites at 13/10 to pull off an away victory here with Grimsby 9/5 to get what would be only their seventh home win of the season - something that may have counted against the departing Neil Woods. With only one defeat in their last 13 league matches Luton Town continue to creep up on Crawley and AFC Wimbledon. The third placed Hatters host Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, who arrive at Kenilworth Road with an eight game unbeaten run. Luton have not managed more than one goal in their last three league matches and that would be a concern for Richard Money as the defensively tight Harriers line up against his team. An outside bet on Kidderminster at 3/1 would only be for the brave - with the best call looking to be No Goalscorer in the game (0-0) at 8/1.

Wrexham are in serious danger of losing their place in the play-offs after a run of just one win in their last five matches. Forest Green Rovers are the 11/2 outsiders as they visit the Racecourse Ground at the weekend - with Wrexham the strong 1/2 favourites to get back to winning ways. Fleetwood Town and Newport County were the surprise packages earlier in the season but both have slightly lost their way since December. The Welsh side have not won all year and have sunk from second place to 10th in a matter of weeks. Fleetwood's slump hasn't been as alarming and they are still pulling out the odd decent result - including a 3-1 win at Luton a couple of weeks ago. Newport host Fleetwood this weekend and I like the look of an away win here at 7/4. York City are another team in the play-off reckoning but need to maintain their new-found consistency, something that was lacking earlier in the season. They travel to Barrow as the 11/10 favourites for what would be their sixth away win in the division. Barrow's good home form is keeping them on the borderline of the relegation zone and York will have to be wary that Crawley and AFC Wimbledon have both returned from Holker Street without three points. Barrow have not won since mid-January and I fancy the Minstermen to continue that stat here.

Rushden & Diamonds have only lost once in their last eight matches and it's no surprise to see them as strong 8/15 favourites for the visit of Hayes & Yeading United. The sides played out a 3-3 draw at the start of Rushden's good run and a repeat here is priced at a huge 50/1. Darlington are another odds-on home team after their 4-0 win over Fleetwood in midweek. Cambridge United are the next visitors to the North East and it's 4/5 for a home victory. United are without a win in 16 attempts against teams from the top 11 in the table and are 3/1 to make amends for that here. Gateshead manager Ian Bogie suffered the ‘manager of the month' curse in midweek as his side lost at York City. I fancy them to get back on track at Altrincham this weekend at a price of 23/20. Bottom club Eastbourne Borough won for the first time since October 2nd last weekend when Matt Smart's incredible long-range effort was enough to beat Fleetwood Town. The Sports host Southport this weekend and are 13/10 to register back-to-back wins for only the second time this season.

Elsewhere Bath City will look to bounce back from a heavy midweek defeat at Rushden with a home game against Kettering Town. Marcus Law's Poppies have lost their last five away matches and are as big as 5/2 to halt that slide at Twerton Park. Bath City are Evens favourites for the three points. Tamworth beat Kettering on Wednesday and have another home game to tackle this weekend with Mansfield Town the visitors to The Lamb. The away side are the slight 6/4 favourites for a game that looks too close to call - a draw at 11/5 looks best here.
