It's the final round of regular season fixtures in the Blue Square Bet Premier and with matters resolved at the top end of the table attention turns to the battle to beat the drop. The Premier Sports cameras will be at The Lamb to show the all important basement clash between Tamworth and Forest Green Rovers. The home side have been big drifters on the market to win this fixture after a goalkeeping crisis. They are currently appealing to make an emergency signing between the sticks although an outfield player or their 42-year-old assistant-manager have been suggested as other alternatives. A home win has slipped to 13/10 and could move out further if the situation is not resolved. Forest Green Rovers are 7/4 to win this game but a draw has to be considered because it could end up suiting both clubs as the evening progresses. If news filters through from Kettering that Southport are losing heavily then a draw would keep both teams safe due to Altrincham's vastly inferior goal difference. The pre-match price for the draw is 12/5 but that could collapse in-running if situations are favourable elsewhere. Based on the team news an away win looks the best investment in what promises to be an intriguing match.
As already mentioned, Southport and Altrincham are the other two clubs in danger. Southport are slight favourites at 7/5 to win at Kettering. A win would guarantee the Sandgrounders' safety. Altrincham need a combination of favourable results in order to beat the drop to the Blue Square Bet North. Ken McKenna's team need Southport to lose at Kettering, a positive result for one team in the live match and also to win themselves. An accumulator that works out to just over 7/2 - with the easiest portion looking like their own ability to get three points at a price of 2/5 at home to Eastbourne Borough.
At this stage of the season there are plenty of matches with no more at stake than pride but I think two such matches warrant a second look. Bath City host Mansfield Town at Twerton Park and the winning team will finish in the top half of the table at the expense of their opponents. With The Stags looking towards the FA Trophy and also ravaged by injuries I'd have to take a home win here at 10/11. Sides that have appointed a new manager are always worthy of extra attention and Newport's players will be playing for their futures under new boss Anthony Hudson, who made some very positive noises about next season in a recent press conference. Take Newport to win at Gateshead at a price of 6/4.
