Blue Square Bet Premier - Midweek Betting Preview - by Alan Alger from Blue Square Bet
Despite relinquishing their lead to three other teams during the course of Saturday afternoon - Newport County remain at the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier table after ten games. Justin Edinburgh's side needed an injury-time winner to scoop all three points from their home game with Southport and now travel to AFC Telford United as the 11/10 favourites with Blue Square Bet to gain their eighth victory of the season. Hosts Telford have only won once in six outings since their shock success at Luton and have made punters pay for judging them on that one result. They are firmly in mid-table though and that's something their boss Andy Sinton would settle for. They are 2/1 outsiders to gain their first home win since mid-August. Forest Green Rovers showed their promotion credentials with a hard fought win at Macclesfield on Saturday and they are 5/4 favourites to follow up with a win at Hereford. The home side got back to winning ways with a 4-2 win over Cambridge at the weekend, but that result maybe says more about Jez George's side. Hereford went into that game off the back of heavy defeats to two newly promoted teams, and they are 7/4 outsiders to beat Forest Green. Wrexham are the shortest priced favourites of the night at 1/3 to beat visitors Barrow. The Bluebirds won well at Ebbsfleet United in their last game, their second away victory in as many games. They are 7/1 outsiders to win a third away game on the trot, something they last managed in March 2011. Odds-on punters were let down by Wrexham at the weekend as they could only draw at odds of 2/5 at home to Dartford.
Macclesfield Town have dropped to fourth in the table following two games without a win. They are Evens favourites to get back to winning ways with victory over Mansfield Town. The Stags have only won once away from home this season - against bottom club Kidderminster - and are out to 11/5 to win at Moss Rose. Grimsby Town extended their unbeaten run to eight games with an emphatic 4-1 home win over pre-season title favourites Luton Town last Friday. They have only conceded four goals in that run of games and look like solid 4/5 shots at home to Gateshead. The Heed have lost three of their last four matches and have poor stats when travelling away from home in midweek over the last few seasons. Ian Bogie's side are 3/1 outsiders to pull off a shock at Blundell Park. Luton Town have only taken one point from the last nine available to them but are still clinging on to favouritism for the title at 100/30. They have a tricky visit to Tamworth to negotiate at a price of 8/11 to gain all three points. With only one clean sheet in their last eight matches defence looks to be a big problem for The Hatters and Tamworth will surely fancy their chances of scoring at least one goal. They will surely have their backers at a price of 16/5 after successive wins which have taken them up to the heady heights of eighth in the table.
Dartford are staking a claim to be this season's dark-horses with five wins in their last seven games and just one defeat in that period. Their 2-2 draw at Wrexham on Saturday was a real pointer that their position is no fluke and their price of 8/5 to win at Braintree is a reflection of that form. The home side have not won in four matches, scoring only one goal in that run and they look weak favourites at 7/5. Woking, who were also promoted from last season's Blue Square Bet South, are in terrific form too with three straight wins. We make them 6/4 to win at Ebbsfleet United tonight and considering the recent struggles of the Kent side that could be a good bet. Ebbsfleet were beaten at home by Barrow on Saturday to make it five defeats in their last seven games. Liam Daish has an injury crisis on his hands and it may not abate enough to make a case for them at 7/5 for this game. Another match where we can hardly split the teams sees Alfreton visit Blue Square Bet North reigning champions Hyde. The visitors are unbeaten in four matches and are the narrow 7/5 favourites to beat a Hyde team that have only one victory to their name all season.
Elsewhere Southport are Evens favourites to win their fourth game in seven at home to Stockport County. Their narrow defeat at Newport was no great disgrace and their form since a shaky start to the season has certainly improved. Stockport sit one place behind them in the table and have drawn both of their last two away games by a 0-0 scoreline. A third on the bounce is priced at 11/1. There is a huge game at the Abbey Stadium where pre-season promotion hopefuls Cambridge United and Kidderminster Harriers are both desperate for a win. The hosts have not won in seven matches and the Harriers are yet to win a game this season. That could point to a draw, but Kidderminster may be a value call at 5/2 considering their form has picked up slightly with five straight draws. Cambridge on the other hand have conceded 19 goals in their last seven and are in big danger of blowing their play-off chance already. Lincoln City failed to build on their win over Hyde as they succumbed to their fifth defeat of the season at Tamworth at the weekend. They are Evens favourites at home to Nuneaton. The visitors are the 11/5 outsiders following a winless run of three games. They have conceded 11 goals in those matches and Lincoln have a good chance of getting their third win of the season on the board.
