 Gary Smith’s Playing Career

Gary Smith signed with Tamworth in 1995 and went on to have a great spell playing at the club. During his first season, Smith played 37 matches scoring 18 goals. He stayed at Tamworth for a further 5 seasons. Eventually he left in 2001. In total, he played 222 games and managing 70 goals. The ratio was a really good one.

In 2002, Smith was signed by John Newsome to play for Gresley Rovers, playing his debut on the 17th of August 2002 in a match against Evesham United. Eventually, he made a total of 26 appearances for Gresley, scoring 7 goals before he ended up leaving on the 25th of January 2003.

After Redditch United showed interest but no contract was signed, Gary Smith ended up signing for the Evesham United team in 2003.

 Gary Smith’s International Playing Career

Gary played 10 matches for Saint Kitts and Nevis and was the first international player that was capped from Tamworth FC.

 Gary Smith’s Managerial Career

The very first stint of interest as a manger that Gary Smith had was when he became first team manager for Continental Star. This happened in June 2014 and was a promotion after he had worked as the assistant manager. Then, in June 2018, Smith made his return to Tamworth FC as the under-21 joint manager, working together with Gareth Zimmerman.
After Dennis Green was dismissed as first team manager in January 2019, Gary Smith and Andrew Danylyszyn became caretaker managers. His very first game was against Bedworth United and ended in a 2-2 draw.

In March 2019, after an unbeaten run of 5 games under their management, Danylyszyn and Smith ended up being announced as Tamworth FC’s joint managers until the end of the season. In the same month, the two were announced as being managers of the month, with an accomplishment of one draw and 4 wins in the very first 5 games under their management.

Tamworth FC showed improved performances and results in their games. It was widely accepted that the two managers were the reason why Tamworth pushed up the table away from the relegation zone and ended up securing twelfth position during the first management season in Southern League Premier Central.

Due to the results of the duo, Andrew Danylyszyn and Gary Smith were officially named as the permanent managers of the club in April, 2019.

Much is expected from the duo but only time will tell if results are going to be brought in or not. However, fans are really happy and results are currently excellent with the team on a seven game winning streak, putting the team in 3rd in the league and still involved in the FA Cup. Gary Smith is appreciated at Tamworth and it is easy to understand why.
