Academy Development statement

Tuesday Mar 3, 2015

Tamworth Football Club are delighted to announce their trials for year 4, 5 and 6 children (under 9, 10 &11) on Tuesday 10th March at The Lamb. The trial will start at 4:45pm, players will need to report to the main entrance between 4:15-4:30pm in full kit, shin pads, boots and a drink. The trial will consist of mainly small sided games and will finish by 5:45pm. The children can be collected at the main entrance between 5:55-6pm.

Each player will need to be registered via email on Please be aware we will not be allowing people to turn up and play on the day. The sessions will be overseen by first team manager Andy Morrell and his assistant Mike Fowler. Both are keen to get started and see these children playing in a Tamworth shirt as soon as possible and maybe even one day for the first team. The club is keen to stress that we are looking to build relationships and partnerships with all junior clubs. For this reason it is important that everybody knows that, any Tamworth academy matches for successful children would NOT clash with any grass roots commitments. This means they will continue with their teams but get additional coaching, games and experiences to help their development. We will be notifying all parent/children within 24 hours of the trial and will hold a meeting at the lamb for all successful players on Thursday 12th March. Andy, Mike and a member of the board will give a full presentation to outline our plans and answer all questions you may have. The reason we are working so efficiently with our time is due to matches we have booked in on the Tuesday 7th of April and mid May against professional academies. This is phase one of the clubs plan to rebuild the junior and youth system within the club. Our plans are to operate with smaller numbers to ensure high quality. Each session will be delivered by Uefa licensed coaches who have all relevant safeguarding checks. Before registering your child or players, please think about the standard that will be required. We are offering elite coaching and elite opportunities for elite players. We will be offering sessions in the near future for all abilities, just for children who want to have fun and learn at the same time, so look out for news. Phase one will see Tamworth Football Club start with three academy teams, to add to the already successful half term fun days put on recently. Every holiday we have two planned for each week. Phase two will see Tamworth Football Club incorporate into their provision a successful community schools project, delivering after school clubs, PPA cover, breakfast clubs and teacher support for curriculum. Phase three will see the project well underway with the introduction of the under 12-16 teams. By this time we fully expect our existing under 9-11 teams to be at full capacity and competitive at a regional level. Phase four nearly completes our vision with the start of our pre academy. These sessions will cater for 5-8 year old boys and girls and will be a direct feeder to our academy. These sessions will be for all abilities. By this time we will expect our u9-11 to be relatively competitive on a national scale and our u12-16 to compete regionally. Add to this our current plans to launch a scholarship programme for 16-18 year olds, giving the opportunity for the talented players of this age to continue their education - which is paramount but also play for Tamworth Football Club. We will also have sponsorship opportunities arise for each team and other areas of the football club. It's a good time to be associated with the forward thinking club.
