3 National League Clubs that will fight for promotion

Monday Sep 10, 2018

The 2018-19 National League is nine games old. Already several clubs have laid down a marker and posted great starts to the season.

Two clubs will emerge from the marathon 46 match season to be promoted to the Football League and out of the Football Conference. With so many games still to come, anything can happen. Football Conference followers can wager on all the great action this season thanks to the latest black type coupon code.

Nine matches have been played with 37 left to go. How is the National League shaping up so far and which football clubs will fight for promotion to League 2?

 Salford City

Despite gaining 15 points from 27 and sitting in ninth place currently, it is difficult to look past Salford City. The Ammies are the glamour boys of the National League due to their wealthy owners and the former BBC television show about the club. Salford City have shown it isn’t just about the glamour as they have earned three promotions in four seasons.
The club is now officially full-time and can count on players that are of a higher calibre than other National League teams. Salford City’s financial might showed last summer when they lured striker Adam Rooney to the fifth tier of English football from Scotland’s Aberdeen. It was a huge coup as Salford City can pay Rooney more than he earned with a Scottish top-flight club. Rooney has already scored seven goals in nine games. With the financial power of Salford City, it is difficult to look past the Ammies for promotion.

 Harrogate Town.

Harrogate Town have continued their great form from last term. The club earned promotion alongside Salford City from the National League North. Harrogate have secured 19 points from 27. They are one of two National League teams not to suffer defeat so far this term.
Town will have their mettle tested at the end of September. The club will face off against Leyton Orient and Wrexham in back to back fixtures. Currently both Leyton Orient and Wrexham are in the top three.

 Leyton Orient.

Currently joint-leaders in the National League, Leyton Orient have secured 19 points from their first nine matches. The team has been impressive posting a +9-goal difference. Orient are in their second season in the National League following a 112-year stay in the Football League. The club is desperate to get out of the Football Conference and may just do it this season.
The only knock against Justin Edinburgh’s team is the quality of opponents it has played. Eighth place Solihull Moors and ninth place Salford City are the highest ranked clubs to play Orient so far. While a club can only beat the teams put in front of it, Orient will have much tougher tests as the season progresses. Orient dispatched Solihull Moors easily 3-0 in September. Although the scoreline flattered Orient as two goals came in the last five minutes. The team’s fixture against Salford City ended 1-1 thanks to an 88th minute own goal that earned Orient the draw.
There is a lot of football left to be played this season, but Salford City, Harrogate Town, and Leyton Orient cannot be overlooked for promotion in May.
