Youthful Lambs fare well at Barwell
28 July 2015Barwell kicked off but within 2 minutes The Lambs took the lead with Taylor found Davies on the edge of the area and his ball into thebox was headed up and over the outcoming keeper and despite his best efforts he was unable to claw it out. (1-0, 2 mins)
Former Lambs Thornton and Christie were involved in a move down the left channel on 5 but the latter was unable to finish the move succinctly and lifted the ball over the bar by some distance.
A Thornton freekick deflected over the bar shortly after and the same player took the corner but Christie headed wide of the near post.
Thornton curled a freekick from 25 yards out on 12 and it went just wide of the left hand upright with Gill at full stretch while at the other end Davies and Taylor battled hard to force a corner.
On 16 a short defensive back pass from Wakelin allowed Taylor to nip in and round the keeper but he missed the target from 18 yards.
Chamberlain lifted a left footed shot over the bar from the left of the box on 29 and a couple of minutes later Tomkinson put the ball over for Lavery but he headed wide of the near post.
Paratore struck from 20 yards on 35 and it took a deflection to take it back to O’Keefe while at the other end the ball ran into the box and Chamberlain took it around Gill before cutting it back for Thornton 6 yards out but the Lambs defence held strong and cleared the danger.
Morrell made a great run onto a Taylor through ball down the right channel and crossed high.
The ball was headed clear and fell to Davies who struck from 25 yards, but it was easy for the keeper to smother.
Hubbins was replaced by Harrison on 41 and then Davies made it 2-0 just before the break when defender Kay miscontrolled and he took it round then past the stranded keeper (44 mins).
The second half got underway with no changes on the Lambs side and on 50, Gill was put under pressure but took the header from the corner well.
On 51 Morrell was played in, in the area , by a fine left sided cross form Davies but his first touch let him down and the keeper smothered at his feet.
Thornton was allowed another go at goal after a foul on the left of the D and his low strike took a deflection for a corner which Gill pushed away.
Morrell struck the ball sweetly from 20 yards on 63 after another precise pas from Davies but the keeper was well placed.
The home side pulled one back from a Thornton corner on 67 when Thompson stole in and finished from 6 yards out. (1-2)
Barwell equalised on 87 through Carney who ran onto Thompson's threaded pass to fire home past Gill (2-2) and the final whistle blew on a good run out for the squad.
