Villains youth take the spoils

FT: Tamworth 1    4 Aston Villa

16 July 2019

Following the 2-0 pre-season away victory over Leicester Nirvana on Saturday The Lambs welcomed the Aston Villa U23 side to the CR MOT Community Stadium.
After a minutes applause for former Lamb Glen ‘Pepsi’ West who recently passed away, Villa got the game underway.

Nine minutes in, a low ball into the box from the left was met by Sea and it deceived Singh and snuck inside the far post to give the visitors the lead. (0-1, 9 mins)
A Beswick left sided corner on 12 was powerfully met the head of Magunda but his goalbound effort was headed away and Waite’s follow up from the right of the box was deflected to safety.
A low strike from Clement tested Searle on 18 and a strong runn down the right by Waite forced a corner on the right on 20 which Magunda got to but couldn’t direct on target.
Clifton hit a low shot on 25 which also tested Searle, but it would have taken a lot to beat him with the underpowered shot from the edge of the box.
Magunda was on hand again on 26 meeting a freekick with a downward header, but it was wide of the near post.
After a prolonger period of workman like but ultimately fruitless football from both sides Obeng was upended on the right wing and Clfton launched the freekick long into the box and Waite made a darting run from a Hoenes pass but it went out of play as the cross came in.
But it was Villa who doubled their lead on 42 when Suliman met a right sided corner with a powerful header and it went through the grip of Singh at the far post and into the back of the net (0-2, 42 mins)
Obeng ran onto a Clement through ball on 45 and was bundled over allowing Waite to strike the penalty.
However, his low shot to the right was blocked and he miskicked the rebound and the keeper tipped it over the bar to leave the scoreline 2-0 in the favour of the visitors at the break.

HT: Tamworth 0    2 Aston Villa

Tamworth restarted the game with both sides having made two changes during the break but the visitors took the initiative first on 47 when sub Tait slotted home from 8 yards in the centre of the box to make it 3-0 to the Villains.
On 51 Hoenes hit a powerful shot which Searle parried and when he tried to recover the rebound he was tripped for second Lambs penalty, and for a second time the Villa keeper denied Tamworth a goal, this time from the boot of Beswick.
Searle denied Hoenes strike on 55 with a save to the keeper’s right, and Waite was replaced by Creaney a minute later.
A Beswick dead ball from the right on 59 was too long for the substitute striker while at the other end Singh denied Sea his second of the evening with a close range block.
Obeng made way for Williams on 62 while Aston Villa made six further changes, including the keeper and one of the subs, Archer, slotted home on 66 to make it 0-4.
Creaney pulled one back for The Lambs on 79 with a powerful back post header from a Beswick corner (1-4).
Williams then made a strong run down the left channel and forced Sinisalo to block his effort on the left of the area.
A dinked ball over a high Villa back line allowed Creaney to run through but he was thwarted by the keeper and Rowe-Turner headed it just wide of the mark on 83.
Another move out of midfield on 88 through Duncan to Williams who forced the keeper to make another save at his near post for a corner on the left and from the flagkick Creaney flahsed his header wide of the mark. (1-4)
In the final passage of play of the game, Beswick sent a left sided freekick into the box and Magunda finished it from close range but the offside flag denied him.
