Todd secures friendly victory
23 July 2013
Dale Belford fielded a reduced sized younger looking squad at Dales Lane with former Mansield Town player-coach Andy Todd the 'surprise' name in the staring eleven and Jose Veiga making an appearance in a Tamworth shirt for the first time since 2007-08.
The home side were quick out of the blocks and the Lambs worked their way into the game as both sides looked for an early opening, and it was The Pics who had th ball in the net first, only to see the close range finish of Bannister ruled out for offside after Mugashi's right wing cross beat Wren and came back invitingly off the far post.
With 10 to go in the first half Todd spotted an opening from the edge of the area and struck a low shot into the bottom left hand corner, giving Solly no chance, with what proved to be the only goal of the game. (1-0, 35 mins)
Louis Harris struck a good shot from 25 yars over the bar and Eckersley made a strong run into the area shortly before the break but his final shot was scuffed and Solly smothered the chance.
The Lambs got the second half underway quickly and Todd shot wide with Ebanks following up at the far post early on.
Veiga was called into actoun on the hour when the bounce of a right wing cross caused problems, while former Lamb Taylor lifted his effort over Veiga's bar when well placed.
Veiga was called into action a handful of times as the game continued with Rushall growing in confidence and also, seemingly, speed and the keeper was at full stretch in his attempt to prevent a header from substitute O'Connor clipping the bar and going out of play.
Captain on the night, Gudger lifted a shot from the edge of the box over the bar and trialist Carlos Thompson misqueued a shot when well placed late on but The Lambs had to settle for a friendly victory by the solitary first half strike
