Through to the next round
30 November 2013
Following the defeat at Kidderminster seven days previously, The Lambs welcomed The Silkmen for their second ever FA Trophy encounter, with Tamworth having lost 1-2 at Moss Rose in January 1974 in the previous meeting.
In a total of 16 matches between the two, Tamworth had recorded just one win - the 1-0 league victory in October when Lateef Elford-Alliyu's strike won three points.
Boss Dale Belford made one change to the side that played at Harriers welcoming Andy Haworth who came into the club on loan from Notts County earlier in the week with Andy Todd and Lloyd Kerry both on four yellow cards, they both took a place on the bench. Macclesfield's four ‘four yellow carders' didn't feature at all as both sides tried not to look ahead at the FA Cup in a weeks time.
With the sun setting low over the Castle End of the ground, Macclesfield got the game underway playing towards the home terrace.
Tamworth went to goal in the 4th minute with Richards-Everton flicking a header over the bar from a long throw and a the other end Belford blocked a shot from Gnahoua earning the home side a corner on 5. Town kept up the pressure forcing another by the clubhouse on 6 and a further one on the opposite side which allowed The Lambs to break with Haworth down the left wing but he was unable to do anything with the ball.
Hildreth hit from distance and Branagan fumbled and recovered and on 19 Mackreth picked up the second yellow card of the game.
Lewis shot for goal on 21 but fired wide of the right hand post from a left position, and Hildreth was the third player booked on 21 for a foul inside the Macclesfield half.
Kissock then became the fourth booking in the fifth foul of the game as Mackreth cut into the box and chipped ot the far post. Boden hit the loose ball on the volley but it was blocked by the Lambs defence.
After taking a knock earlier in the half, Dale Belford took no chances by replacing Peniket with Wright on 29 and a couple of home corners were forthcoming but were cleared from danger.
A freekick was awarded on the left of the Macclesfield midfield but it was booted away and when Haworth tried to chase it down over the half way line, he pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to be replaced by Todd.
Holroyd went close with a shot in the right of the box as three minutes added time was shown and at the other end Chadwick placed his header on target but was unable to fool keeper Branagan as to the direction.
Tamworth got the second half underway and Todd struck for the target inside the first minute but screwed his shot wide of the right hand upright.
The Lambs looked more likely to net in the first ten minutes of the second half and after Boden had been booked on 56 Tpdd struck right footed over the target from 20 yards.
Branagan came out of his area to deny the run of Hildreth on 62 and Courtney became the sixth player booked shortly afterwards but it didn't dampen his spirit and he got back quickly to head away from danger for a left sided corner.
Hildreth was replaced by Kerry on 65 and on 72 after Capaldi was been booked, Andrew struck a low freekick into the arms of Belford.
A foul midway inside the Macclesfield half on 77 fell to Chadwick but his cross was cleared and mackreth burst forward only to see the ball cleared by Courtney. Town kept up some pressure and when the ball fell to Gnahoua his shot screwed well wide of the mark.
Then, on 82 Bolton fell and handled in the area, handing Chadwick the penalty kick but he struck the bar which his spot kick and Todd fired home the rebound from the left of the area. (1-0, 83 mins)
From a corner on the left on 89, Capaldi's pinpoint deadball was headed home firmly by Richards-Everton to make it 2-0 and five minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and the final whistle blew on victory for The Lambs.
