Three hard earned points v Hatters
18 August 2012
For the visit of Stockport County, who had won both of their opening games, Lambs boss Marcus Law made no changes to the starting eleven from Tuesday night when the side came back from two goals down to record a fine point against Hereford to continue which ensured they too remained unbeaten since the opening fixture a week previously. The only change was on the bench, with Duane Courtney coming in for Luke Bottomer.
After a slightly delayed kick off, Tamworth got the game underway kicking towards the Meadow Street endbut there was an early stoppage when Hobson went down under a challenge on the half way line and County saw Breeden punch the ball clear from the deep freekick.
And on 3 Barrow was penalized for a foul on the same player but this time the freekick was around 25 yards out on the right of the D. Newton tried his luck but put the ball over the top of the cross bar failing to trouble Breeden.
The visitors won a corner on 5 and O'Donnell headed it back across the box for Breeden to collect at height and his kick reached Ormson at the other end with just a bounce in the box.
A push by Halls on Marna just over the half way line on 12 gave Barrow the chance to put the ball into the danger area from the left side and he found Marna, but the following ball in was cleared away for a throw.
Keryy robbed the ball off the Stockport defender on the edge of the box on 14 but was unable to get purchase on his shot and Ormson collected the low strike easily.
Tait won a corner from deflected cross on 16 but Till's ball in was cleared.
On 20, Cunnington was forced to track back and conceded a freekick on the left wing which was worked back up field by Marna and Till, but Till was well challenged as he strode into the box.
Marna and Hobson required treatment on the pitch around the 23rd minute allowing a drinks break for both sides and Hobson eventually required a stretcher to leave the field as the visitors made an early enforced change. Although the Lambs forward walked from the field, Law was also forced to replace Marna, with Collins coming on.
A foul by Connor on Collins 30 yards from goal found the head of Oji and Cunnington glanced it onto the far post before it was cleared to the left and Nolan's challenge on Barrow on the touch line earned the County player a booking.
After a period of Lambs possession Gudger tried a shot from 18 yards but lifted his left footed effort high over the bar.
Wright jinked on the edge of the area but his low shot was off target and the Cunnington moved down the left wing but was impeded by Halls who picked up a yellow card for his troubles on 37. The freekick was taken by Cunnington but was high over the bar.
More Lambs pressure kept the ball into the top end of the ground as the final five minutes came into view and Cunnington directed his header from Gudger's ball into the box from the left out past the far post on 42.
Peter Till got past two defenders and into the box from the right on 44, but his finish was lacking and failed to test Ormson with a stretching low shot.
An additional four minutes added time was shown at the end of the half and Tait twice got the ball into the area but both times Stockport it away, then another similar ball was headed at goal by Wright and Ormson recovered after initially fumbling.
And it was left to Oji to open the scoring, diving full length to head home from close range from Cunnington's header across goal and in off the post. (1-0, 45 mins)
County boss Jim Gannon made another change at half time as his side kicked off and the ball went straight back to Breeden who started a Lambs move forward before the visitors won a corner on 48 when Rowe saw his cut back blocked.
Gudger was forced to mop up a loose ball on 49 with Rowe looking to get a shot away and Breeden punched clear from Nolan's ball in from the left on 50.
Oji then worked hard to clear off the heels of Nolan as the visitors kept the ball in the Lambs half, and on 55 Hattersley brought a fine flying save from Breeden which saw him push it around the right hand post for a corner.
Collins then brought a low stop from Ormson at his near post with a low drive from the left of the box.
Cunnington tried to pounce on a loose ball which Ormson was unable to get his hands cleanly on to, but was unable to get any purchase on it and while Piergianni received the magic sponge the players took the opportunity for another drinks break.
Breeden ventured far out his box to clear a long ball forward again and Stockport made their final change on the field.
Another break in play came on 73 when Rowe stayed down for a prolonged period and the game entered the final quarter of an hour.
A quick break won the Lambs a corner but Marshall's far post header went the from side of the upright on 76 and Cunnington almost forced an opening but saw his shot blocked on 77, however it fell to Kerry and his curled shot from the edge of the box was taken by Ormson.
Till was replaced by Llado with nine to go and Kerry turned into space in the right of the box on 84 but lifted his right footed effort over the bar.
A freekick for County came on 86 but Rowe struck the wall and Breeden punched the ball in clear of danger allowing Llado to feed Collins who in turn fed Cunnington in the area, but the ball went over the line for a goal kick.
Tait then won a corner on the right running the ball along the byline before a tackle prevent his further progress and Kerry and Cunnington took it short to keep the ball in the corner. Cunnington hit a shot straight at the defender covering his path to goal on 90 and as Kerry tried to advance through midfield he was pulled back setting up Barrow's dead ball as four minutes added time was shown.
Barrow was booked for a challenge on the half way line as the seconds ticked down and Marshall headed away strongly.
Ormson then ventured to the half way line but his pass was way off target and went out for a throw in and the final whistle blew.
