Tait strike separates sides
20 July 2010
Although a total of 19 players took part in the friendly match at Keys Park, Lambs boss Gary Mills opted not to field two sides as in the previous two matches with only three changes at half time, giving Alex Rodman his first run out of pre-season for about an hour before being replaced.
The first half had more chances for The Lambs than the second with Tamworth definitely on top of their hosts for the most part.
Dorryl Proffitt caused the Tamworth defence a few problems with his pace, but generally The Lambs worked hard to create chances but only one went in the net, when Richard Tait cut into the area on 36 and poked a shot past the keeper from an angle when it looked like his chance had gone.
Perry had missed out on scoring a few minutes earlier, running onto a through ball, but was unable to beat Dan Crane in the Pitmen goal and the same player did well to turn into space between the two home centre backs shortly before the half time break but sliced his shot wide of the mark from the edge of the area.
In the second half, keeper Shaun Markie was called upon a lot more, but generally cleared the danger by any means necessary and was helped out by Wylde and the only ‘debutant' of the evening Jacob Rowe when it looked like a defensive header was looping into the net on 56.
A number of home substitutions disrupted the flow but Rowe almost doubled The Lambs lead on 69 when his powerful header from a right sided corner struck the base of the far post before being cleared.
Farrell then went close in the final five minutes, sprinting onto a good through ball only to see his chip over Crane take a deflection onto the crossbar.
