Swans break Lambs duck

FT: Tamworth 0    1 Swansea City U21's

23 July 2014After two and a half pre-season friendlies Dale Belford brought his new squad to The Lamb for the first time to face The Swans in glorious sunshine.
After a delayed start due to motorway traffic, Swansea got the game underway and in the early exchanges Taylor clashed with the Swans keeper outside the area which caused a lengthy delay while he received treatment.
Although both sides played a purposeful game there was little to report in the way of goal mouth action as the game continued past the half hour mark with Tamworth shading it on forward play into Swansea’s final third and on 37 Jackson forced the visiting keeper into a good save down to his left.
And on 40 a cross box ball nearly squeezed in at the back post but Jackson was denied a touch despite seeming to be getting everywhere on the field except in goal.
Swansea’s 10 had the ball in the net on 44 but it was denied by a clear offside decision from the linesman and after a minute added time the whistle blew on the first half.

The Lambs restarted the game and play continued as it had in the first half with neat passing being attempted but on 54 Swansea’s 9 headed home with a glancing effort from 4’s ball into the box. (0-1 54 mins)
A good freekick by Sleath was headed well by Preston on the hour but the Swansea keeper was well positioned to gather then ball.
A handful of freekicks at either end, peppered by a similar number of substitutions disrupted play slightly, but both tams continued to work at adding a goal to the night’s tally with Swasnea’s 11 jinking in the box and forcing Belshaw into a low save on 69.
A deflection from a left wing cross almost beat the visiting keeper and The Swans hit the woodwork twice after then.
As the game drew to a close a number of opportunities presented themselves from distance for Tamworth, but the squad was unable to find the back of the net before the final whistle blew.
