Super Bob heads super Lambs show
19 March 2005
Lambs' leading scorer Bob Taylor came through a fitness test just 90 minutes prior to kick off and was on the end of Aaron Brown's 31st minute centre to give Tamworth a 1-0 victory over a generally unimpressive York City.
But boss Mark Cooper is not resting on the side's 42 points which should see them secure Conference status for another season.
"Our next target is 50 points. The spirit in the dressing room is fantastic and we will be looking to keep the momentum going to the end of the season and onto the next."
York barely troubled the Lambs in front of goal, while Tamworth created enough chances to kill the game off. "We should have buried it in the first half," said Cooper, "but we never looked like conceding."
Clint Marcelle, playing just behind Taylor up front, showed his experience by holding the ball up and creating openings for the Lambs with Whitman going close in both halves and Kyle Storer and Brown also impressing among a younger quicker Tamworth side.
Injuries and suspensions meant that Cooper had a depleted squad to choose from but Adie Smith should be back for the trip to Halifax on Good Friday to boost the numbers a little.
